Bengal Govt elevates IPS Ajay Mukund Ranade to DGP (Law and Order)
Governor CV Ananda Bose has tendered his resignation from the constitutional post on Thursday. The decision came as a surprise to many, as Bose still had 20 months left in his tenure, which was scheduled to end in November 2027. While the specific reasons for his sudden departure have not been officially disclosed, sources indicate that he submitted his resignation while in New Delhi, and it has reportedly been accepted by Rashtrapati Bhavan.
CV Ananda Bose assumed office on November 17, 2022, following the tenure of Jagdeep Dhankhar. His term was marked by frequent and intense face-offs with the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government over various policy decisions, university appointments, and law-and-order issues. The Governor’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) confirmed the news from Delhi, stating that the formal letter had been dispatched to the President’s office, effectively ending his nearly three-and-a-half-year stint in the state.
The timing of the resignation has sparked intense speculation across political circles in Bengal. With the state gearing up for a high-stakes Assembly election, the exit of a Governor who was often at loggerheads with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) adds a new layer of complexity to the administrative landscape. Throughout his tenure, Bose remained vocal about his criticisms of the state secretariat, often traveling to Delhi to brief central authorities on the prevailing situation in Bengal.
